OUR STORY

At the entrance to the Hemel & Aarde valley in the beautiful town of Hermanus, inside the Hemel and Aarde Village, lies the Wine Village, the gem that is the result of a decades-long journey that began with Harare expat Paul du Toit, and his wife Cathy, in 1998, and is now continued by Jean-Pierre Rossouw.

Wine Village is truly a one-stop wine experience where you will find efficient, knowledgeable and friendly service. Instead of having to visit the individual vineyards, one can simply find all the best in South African wines, gins and brandies under the roof of the Wine Village. 

With over 5,000 labels of South African wines from nearly 800 South African wine producers, the Wine Village has an astounding library of fine wines to select from. You will find only quality wines at the Wine Village as all wines must pass a staff panel tasting test.

Award-winning wines, gins and brandies can be enjoyed at the tasting counter for both individuals and groups on a daily basis.

We also ship wines all over the world. From a single bottle to container loads - we can deliver for your complete peace of mind - fast, efficiently and fully insured.

 


Paul Du Toit - The man who started it all 

Paul has a very strong and lively personality that always inspires. His zest for life can be seen in the smallest of details when he tends to his Bonsai trees and in his accolades outside of his career such as his unbeaten world record in Life Saving and arduous Cape Epic cycle. He has also cooked for world presidents!

This dynamic but humble man is a demonstration of an energised life, not only in what he has achieved, but who he is as a person. Paul loves hiking in the bush, bird watching and has created an unbelievable forest-like garden at the Village to welcome birds and wildlife to a welcome sanctuary.

 


 

Jean-Pierre Rossouw - The next decades

 Jean-Pierre Rossouw has been a part of the wine and food industry since 1999, starting as the weekly wine columnist for the Cape Times and later writing and editing a number of South African wine titles including Mixed Case,Tasting the Cape and the fun-loving title Everything You Wanted to Know About Wine but Were Too Afraid to Ask.He has also been the publisher of Platter's South African Wine Guide and founded Rossouw's Restaurants – which became South Africa’s leading independent restaurant guide.

As an expert, Jean-Pierre has also been the head judge of the South African Wine & Food Tourism Awards and the Diners Club Winelist of the Year Awards; as well as a judge for the international San Pellegrino Top 50 Restaurants awards.

Over the years, he has curated innovative wine lists and hosted many wine tastings that bring the story of South Africa’s wonderful wines to life for the consumer. “As the culmination of my wine journey, heading up Wine Village is a great honour – and an incredible opportunity to take this fine wine retailer into the future. Wine Village is a true icon – and I thank Paul and Cathy for entrusting it to me after 24 years. An exciting future awaits!”.
